Power & Data Networks Advanced Technologies Network Gateways

Supporting the emerging network standard protocols for in-vehicle entertainment and telematics
Data connectivity between the vehicle and the consumer is achieved through Yazaki’s various gateway devices, which seamlessly integrate the vehicle networks and consumer devices.
To ensure optimum networking, connectivity, computing and control, these families of advanced gateways are:

Versatile. They not only facilitate data sharing between dissimilar networks, they perform system management functions, such as allocating bandwidth and providing a firewall between the vehicle bus and the multimedia bus.

Upgradeable. They can accommodate additional functions, such as network management, authentication, video compression, computing and wireless connectivity.

These gateways provide for a scalable network, which allow OEMs to phase-in implementation without obsolescing existing systems and components. The families of Yazaki gateways are categorized by the following functions:

 TYPE  VEHICLE INTERFACE  CONSUMER INTERFACE
 Vehicle Gateway  CAN/J1850/MOST  N/A
Audio/Video Gateway  MOST/CAN/J1850  Analog or digital audio/video; IEEE 1394 OEM Audio Devices
 Wireless Gateway  J1850/CAN/MOST  Bluetooth, 802.11

Vehicle Gateways

Providing connectivity between existing protocols and the new multimedia network standard

By converting data streams from various protocols to MOST and providing connectivity through the existing vehicle bus, the Yazaki MOST vehicle gateways allow automotive manufacturers to take advantage of the greater bandwidth capabilities and system flexibility, offered by MOST.
MOST - which stands for Media Oriented Systems Transport - is the emerging network standard for in-vehicle multimedia and entertainment devices.

By accommodating existing CAN and J1850 devices, the MOST vehicle gateway enables designers to phase-in the implementation of the MOST network protocol, without obsolescing existing systems and components. In addition, Yazaki can customize the MOST vehicle gateway to meet the unique requirements of any vehicle program.

Key Features:

The Yazaki vehicle gateway serves to:
• Interface CAN and J1850 systems to the MOST network
• Support vehicle controls and commands
• Provide vehicle and multimedia system diagnostics
• Provides firewall and data security capability
Additional Capabilities
The Yazaki vehicle gateway can also provide MOST network management functions such as:
Network bandwidth allocation/de-allocation
Device discovery and interrogation – hot “plug-and-play”
Fault management and recovery
Device management and resource allocation
Intelligent system power management

Audio / Video Gateways

The network interface solution for audio, video, data and control
The Yazaki Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) is the emerging network standard for in-vehicle multimedia and entertainment devices.

MOST audio/video gateway provides connectivity between entertainment devices and the MOST network, delivering the system flexibility and enhanced control offered by MOST.

The MOST audio/video gateway converts data from both analog and digital sources to MOST digital data streams, providing cost-effective connectivity for portable DVD, CD, MD and MP3 players, as well as other audio and video devices.

Fully scalable, the MOST audio/video gateway also provides connectivity to CAN- and J1850-enabled devices such as radios, amplifiers and CD changers, allowing designers to use legacy systems and components within the MOST multimedia network.

• Key Features
The Yazaki MOST audio/video gateway:
• Interface audio and video (analog and 1394DV) to MOST
• Support vehicle controls and commands
• Supports vehicle and multimedia system diagnostics
• Facilitates CAN and J1850 control data
• Supports digital audio, gaming, DVD and CD players
• Provides MPEG Audio and video compression
• Supports multiple video channels for rear-seat entertainment
• Connects to portable DVD, CD and MD players or cameras
• Additional Capabilities

The Yazaki audio/video gateway can also provide MOST network management functions such as:
• Network bandwidth allocation/de-allocation
• Device discovery and interrogation – hot “plug-and-play”
• Fault management and recovery
• Device management and resource allocation
• Intelligent system power management

Wireless Technology Gateways

Efficient vehicle connectivity to wireless devices

Because it allows instant wireless connectivity between in-vehicle applications, local devices (e.g., in-car communications) and remote devices (e.g., hands-free mobile phone access, telematics), wireless technology is gaining wide application in power and data networks (PDNs). Yazaki is developing gateways that utilize Bluetooth and 802.11 to achieve seamless connectivity within the vehicle.

In Yazaki PDNs, a Bluetooth-to-CAN gateway transparently handles data between dissimilar networks (e.g., Bluetooth, CAN and MOST), linking communications to the vehicle’s data bus. Yazaki has also developed 802.11 gateway capabilities for Local Area Network applications. As a result, wireless connectivity may be achieved with an almost endless array of applications, including:
• Remote vehicle diagnostics (call-center telematics)
• Remote programming
• Advanced two-way remote control
• In-vehicle communications
• Web-based functions, including e-mail and internet browsing
• Convenient access/authentication
• Hands-free mobile phone access (for data sharing with PDAs and laptops)
• New "on-demand" services

More on Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Bluetooth wireless technology allows users to make instant connections between various devices. The Bluetooth radio system operates in the 2.4GHz, globally available ISM band to ensure communication compatibility worldwide, and supports both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections using the FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) technique (1600 hps).

Bluetooth wireless technology is designed to be fully functional, even in very noisy radio environments. It also provides a very high transmission rate. All data is protected by advanced error-correction methods, as well as encryption and authentication routines for the user’s privacy.
